Xolani-Marie, the founder of LookWithin, has transformed her pain into a powerful healing space. Growing up in a dysfunctional household and spending 25 years in a relationship that eroded her identity, she faced the harsh reality of losing herself while striving to meet the needs of others. Balancing a demanding 9-to-5 job from home, pursuing her education, and raising six children, four of whom are now adults, Xolani silently battled the weight of depression and anxiety. In 2021, she was diagnosed with Graves' disease, followed by myasthenia gravis in 2024. However, these challenges ignited her passion for healing, driving her to create a sanctuary where others can also reclaim their identities and find solace.
Through LookWithin, it is my mission to inspire individuals to navigate their own struggles and embrace self-discovery. In creating this brand with faceless digital avatars, I found a source of immense joy. Designing these unique figures allows me to express creativity while embracing a deeper meaning. Inspired by Whitney Houston's empowering declaration, “I’m every woman,” these avatars symbolize the diverse experiences and backgrounds of all individuals. Each one mirrors the beautiful complexity of human existence: different shades, stories, and struggles intertwine to form a rich tapestry of identity.
